At least they were clean...

Twenty minutes. That's how long my son has slept today. And of course, I have an insane amount of stuff to get done and of course, I was totally planning on doing it during his usual 2-3 hour afternoon nap.

Smigh.

I'm addicted to freecycle and craigslist - mostly because there are people out there willing to take any and all of the crap I've been trying to get rid of for ages. I'm not kidding - I had a huge bag of mismatched socks. We gave up trying to find the pairs (I swear, the dryer eats them for breakfast). So out of curiosity, I listed the bag on craigslist - and someone came by and took it that very afternoon! Seriously - they took our old socks. People are weird.

So I've been emptying closets and digging through the basement and making piles to give away. Sure, I could get some money if I sold everything on ebay, but that requires a whole lot of time and energy I don't have. A few non-profits have taken things, too, which I'm glad for. The bigger stuff I'm selling, but otherwise - just take it! Please! Hell, I'm considering having a "Yard Free" - like a yard sale, but everything is free. I'd put a jar out for donations for Children's Hospital Boston, in case anyone felt like donating, but it would be completely optional. I'd get rid of the random clutter and perhaps make a few bucks for a worthy cause. Think it'd work?

Um, maybe he was a sock puppet master? That would be much less creepy.

I'm a freecycle nut. We have yard frees around here. I've started a box pile in my garage for the next community one.

If you do it, I would stick to advertising on the freecycle lists. This helps avoid the people that want to take everything to try and resell it.

I would also add a little back story near the jar, just so people don't think you are keeping the money for yourself.

Oh and odd socks for me mean odd sock creatures for everyone!

Post the results if you do it!

Yes, a free yard sale could work. I've read about them on my local freecycle lists.

In fact, my mom and I talked about having a regular yard sale (I don't want to but she does) - and the last day of the sale would be free, take whatever's left. We figured we'd advertise it on the freecycle lists.

LOL. I love that idea. I've got so much stuff to get rid of ... anyone want a bazillion out-of-date college text books?!?! My hubby refused to sell his off when he had the chance. And now they're pretty much worthless. We're trying to pare down the house before we put it on the market. Oy. I will be taking tips from you.

I'm a mama! SleepydoodleLittle Samson Daniel was born on February 24th, 2006. Sammy was born with a congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). He underwent his first open heart surgery at 4 days old and his second at 5 months old. He will need another surgery when he's between 2 and 3 years old. His mama and daddy, however, think he's absolutely perfect. You can read all about his birth here, or all about him on his site, baby samson.
