He's all, "I'm a big boy now. I'll take my milk in a Sam Adams pint glass, please."

Sammy's new bedWe've been talking about moving Sammy to a big boy bed for a few weeks now. It just seems like the logical next step, and he's never really taken to his crib anyway, preferring to sleep with us or in his swing next to our bed. And while we love having him with us, it'd be nice to see more than 4 hours of sleep at a clip.

So this morning, because we didn't have anything better to do and we like to take on more projects than we should, we took the front off Sammy's crib to convert it to a "big boy bed" - and then realized that none of the typical bed rails work on conversion cribs. Oops. And the rail that matches his crib was a special order that would take 10-12 weeks. Yeah - not so much. So we poked around craigslist (have I told you how much I luuuuuuurv craigslist?) and at 5pm, just hours before bedtime, bought him a fun practically-new fire truck bed for about a quarter of the price of a brand new one. The conversation went like this: "I know you've got the bed listed for $$, but will you take $ if we come get it RIGHT NOW?" So while Jay went and picked it up, Jay's mom and I cleaned up Sammy's room and childproofed it a bit more - because, well, now Sammy can get up and wander around his room in the middle of the night. Eek.

Wish us luck!

I LOVE that bed? Does the light on top really work?
A house on Yaphank Ave, Spring of 2006 had a yard sale, mostly childrens toys. Young childrens toys and that fire truck bed was one of them. Trevor already had a bed but I thought wouldn't it be really cute if we put it in the back yard with a piece of board down & seats? Soooo we made the lady an offer, I think she was asking $75.00, we got her down to $40.00, which I thought was pretty good. Plus she threw in a childs work bench.
Ya know, if we didn't have the type of crib that goes to the toddler/full size bed, I would have loved to have gotten Trevor that bed. Since his PaPa is a fire fighter.
Good luck tonight. I hope it is unevenful.

That bed is adorable!!

He's going to do fine. If he gets out at night-time, seriously, just keep putting him back. He'll learn he has to stay. And he might even surprise you and just love, love, love it!

I adore that bed. It is too cute.

Come on you have to tell us how he did?? Did he love it as much as we do? It is adorable. My four year old asked if he could have a bed like that!

Hope he is enjoying his new bed!

Hope it went well...I'm STILL putting off the move from crib to bed-and Rachel is almost THREE. I kinda like her contained, lol! And she sleeps so well, I hate to mess with it!

That is such a darling bed!! Does he love it?

that bed is fantastic!!

What a cute bed! We did the exact same thing with my oldest and found a VW bug version of that bed on craigslist. The transition was seamless for him and his younger brother who now inherited the "crash car bed" as they call it.

That bed is cool.

My dad built a firetruck bunk bed for me, but never really finished it. Still, firetrucks are great for sleeping in, take it from an expert!

I'm a mama! SleepydoodleLittle Samson Daniel was born on February 24th, 2006. Sammy was born with a congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). He underwent his first open heart surgery at 4 days old and his second at 5 months old. He will need another surgery when he's between 2 and 3 years old. His mama and daddy, however, think he's absolutely perfect. You can read all about his birth here, or all about him on his site, baby samson.
